Our philosophy on food at the Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman is really quite simple. We have three core beliefs.
First and foremost, your food should taste great! Fortunately, the food that grows in Hawaii is amazing. A sweeter mango does not exist than the one you would pick off Aunties tree on a hot summer day in Lahaina. We proudly source our produce and meat locally so it as fresh as possible. Our simple and thoughtful preparations always let the freshness shine through. Lucky Live Hawaii!
Second, we believe your dining experience with us has the power to invoke a sense of nostalgia for a simpler way of life. We live in a world where factories make the majority of our clothes and science labs create our breakfast cereals. At the Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman, handcrafted is making a big time comeback! When something is handcrafted, be it the surfboards that hang above our bar, the ramen noodles from Mrs. Nomura in Paia, or Peter’s mango cream pie recipe, you can bet there is a face and a story behind it. We are passionate about promoting this connection of past and present as it is a way for memories to live on.
And lastly, we are committed to doing what’s right. Each choice we make in our day to day operations can have a huge impact on our local community and environment. We continuously ask ourselves, is this product sustainable, how can we create less waste, and are we doing everything we can to leave the world a better place than we found it?
